Sue Peters, Physiotherapist
(BA Kin., M.P.T., CAFCI)
Orthopaedic, Neurological & Vestibular Physiotherapist
Sue obtained her Master’s degree in Physiotherapy in 2007 from the University of Western Ontario after completing a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. She has worked in a variety of clinics and hospitals in Ontario and in BC primarily in private practice orthopedics and neurology, as well as acute neurosurgery, and a rehabilitation hospital for head injuries.
Her treatment philosophy involves a holistic approach to assessing the patient, with patient centered goals as the focus of treatment. Sue takes a detailed look at posture, movement patterns, core control, and function. Treatment includes a hands-on approach to teach patients how to move better, manual therapy to normalize muscle imbalances and joint stiffness, and to use exercise as a treatment to reduce pain and dysfunction. She also likes to educate her patients about how to avoid future injuries.
In patients with neurological conditions, the goal of treatment is to increase balance, decrease effort and maximize comfort in all aspects of physical mobility and performance. Therapy focuses on enhancing quality of life by assisting patients to return to meaningful roles within their homes, social settings, with recreation and in their workplace. Sue has extensive experience in the assessment, treatment and management of individuals with neurological conditions and has participated in post-graduate clinical education relevant to neurological rehabilitation. Therapy aims include: optimizing balance, strength, flexibility, walking, and arm and leg function.
Outside of the clinic, Sue likes to go backcountry camping in the mountains. Her favourite spot so far is at Upper Joffre Lake right next to the glacier. She also enjoys riding her bike around the city and is currently training for a 10km run. She also likes to play tennis recreationally and regularly practices yoga.
