What is Nordic Walking?
Nordic walking, fitness walking with specially designed poles, is rapidly gaining popularity in the Vancouver area. By incorporating all the major muscle groups in the body, it combines the positive training aspects of walking with the total-body exercise advantages of cross-country skiing.
While exercising major muscles of both the upper and lower limbs, a typical Nordic walking workout will burn on average ~25 -50% more calories than regular walking. And you don’t even feel like you’re working harder!
Nordic walking is safe, gentle, and effective. The rubberized pole tips and handles absorb most of the impact, minimizing excessive stress on your joints. In all, Nordic walking is an easy way to firm your muscles, improve your posture, strengthen your core, increase your bone density, and enhance your cardiovascular health. It will help improve lymph system function and boost your immune system while positively impacting your overall energy and mood. It will increase your overall stamina and muscle endurance, and help you to lose weight while minimizing the incidence of pain and injury.
Whether you’re a walker, a runner, or someone who’s just looking for something new, this exercise will allow you to work smarter, not harder and build better fitness in less time!
